FAQ

The pictures show frames. Do your products come framed?

The images we display are for illustrative purposes only, our images do not come framed. We strive to format the maps and other wall art to fit standard frames, which can be found at retailers large and small. However, many maps and charts were created long before standard-sized frames so a custom frame may be your best option.

Are your maps available in a smaller size?

If you would like a map, chart, or other art formatted to a size not listed on the product page, contact us and we'll do our best to meet your request. Please note that due to the level of detail, maps are best displayed at their original size or larger - which are the sizes we offer them at. Smaller versions may not be able to be truly appreciated.

We can also print the maps as large as you would like, though extremely large prints will not be as clear as the standard sizes- especially during close-up viewing.

I've seen these kinds of maps other places on the internet. Why are yours any better?

We have searched university archives, libraries, and other collections to find unique and interesting maps. Most of the maps and images we offer are not found for sale anywhere else. Seriously. Google the name and date of any of the items in our Exclusive Offerings collection and you won't see them appear in any other store.

Some of the products we offer can also be found on sites like eBay or Etsy. However, the majority of those other offerings are simply digital files from a government website that have not been restored or remastered - often including tears, fold lines, mold spots, water stains,  and other defects that make their product much less enjoyable.

We meticulously restore and repair our maps before they are listed for sale.

Are these original maps?

No. The maps, charts, and other wall art we offer are created using high resolution scans of the original material. Most of the maps are 100 - 300 years old, and the originals are very deteriorated. We use the latest in digital technology and skilled artistry to restore these digital versions to be as close to the originals as possible.

Are your maps perfectly restored?

In short, no. The process used to create the originals involved many steps, and each of those steps introduced errors and mistakes that gave the maps character. While we remove imperfections caused by wear and time, we honor the integrity of the original map whenever possibe, flaws and all.
